About.

B. 1991

Benjamin Hans Moser is an American born abstract artist known for his large format emotive and mood driven paintings.

Stylistically, the artwork tends to be categorized into two groups. The first, landscape paintings comprised of singular, tactile strokes and heavy, minimal arrangements. And second, paintings that will define a space using instinctive linear symbols and architecture. Moments of chaos and confinement in this style are absorbed by using contrasting layers. His practice involves weaving together artistic and musical references, blurring the lines between chaos and structure. The larger format allows a landscape to embody the viewer at human scale; redefining gravity and splitting the reality between real and emotional realms.

“This theme directly coexists in my brain. Life is full of love, depression, anxiety, joy, and grief, feelings every human on this earth will experience. I try to capture such discord into a focal point. I curate chaos and search for where randomness finds focus.”

Hailing from Baltimore, Maryland, Ben graduated from Towson University with a BFA in furniture design. Currently based in Bend, OR, Ben continues to explore the interplay between abstraction, photography, objects, and interior spatial creation; delving into the realms of identity, reality, and perception through his minimal and volatile artworks.

Work Inspirations

Inner satisfaction.

Painting forces you to be present in the moment. My work seeks to find the communication between the inner and outer world — the language of the brain, heart, and hands. I move through thoughts, intentions, dreams, and feelings to achieve reformation. I operate from a higher place within myself, yet I also visualize the greed of the lower self that seeks to break through.

Interior composition.

Growing up, my father worked as a contractor and my mom as an interior designer. Our home was a space that defined their work. It was ever-changing — a reflection of their understanding of what home means to them.

Hanging a painting can define a room. Every object in a room plays a sensory role in creating a scene. Artwork brings grounding to mechanized spaces; it restores a sense of intimacy and the presence of humanity to a space.

Musical foundations.

I draw upon the soul of music in my work, incorporating song titles, meanings, and character stories. The paintings are not depictions; rather, they are the titles themselves. Every mark represents the experience — a visual response to the lyrics. Depth, love, grief — working through these concepts in real time becomes the message and meaning of the work.
